    Mounting a Dead Head?

In early November I found a very nice dead head of a buck we had watched for 3 years. We were bummed to find him dead, but since he was such a nice deer we sawed off and kept his antlers. The more I see them sitting in the garage the more I think about how much history I have with him. Is it wrong to mount a dead head on a spare cape? I’ve never done it but I think he would look great on the wall because of what he is. I’ll post pictures when I get back to the house. I’ve got an extra cape in the freezer so it wouldn’t be much of a process.

Does anyone have a reputable taxidermist in San Antonio or New Braunfels that could do the work?

I wouldn't hesitate doing this. There are many bucks that I have hunted over the years that I have never been able to connect with. I would give anything to find their head and mount them. For me, a head on the wall is to bring back memories of that deer. Not necessarily the killing shot. I would look hard at Double Nickel to do the mount.

Nothing wrong with that at all... unless you were to try to pass it off as one you hunted.

I found one a few weeks back im just waiting on a chance to euro. He's going on my wall once I do!

You should try Otten Bros. Taxidermy or if you are looking for someone less expensive, call Carey Pool. 210-382-9740. He does great work and has low overhead so he is less expensive and also really quick.

Do it. I've known some who do something like that with skull plates from say a grandfathers deer.

Especially since you have a history with him, I wouldn't think twice about it.

I wouldn't hesitate to mount it. It's a trophy on your eyes regardless, so go for it.

If that's what you want then do it. Nothing wrong with it at all.

My brother did one like that but he mounted the antlers on a Mountain Mike euro kit and it looks great and wasn’t near as expensive as a full cape mount.

If you want to mount it, go for it. There is always a **** in the punch bowl who will tell you not to do something you want to do!

Does Texas require a tag of some sort on a deadhead?

Get that thing mounted. Mounts are to show respect for the animal, how they died doesn't matter.

Read it wrong. I thought the title said mounting a dead horse......I was way off.
