staining concrete??

I am getting ready to have a 16'x20' patio extension poured next weekend. My question is about staining the concrete. I know I can have them add a dye to concrete but we are not wanting just a solid color. We like the acid stain look and I was wondering how big or complicated a job that is. Or, is there another way to get the stained look.
