Was looking for some input on the M2 illusions. In the market for a new boat and leaning towards the M2. I know the original illusion is pretty rough but have not been in the second generation illusions. Mainly fish around poc, seadrift area. Looking for some feedback on the m2's thanks.

it isn't that much difference. It's a refined illusion. slightly better ride and turning capability.. still an illusion. They're rough.
the 25 illusion also has the "M2" characteristics. It's basically less flat across the stern on the bottom of the hull than the original.

Any flats fishing boat will be rough in a good chop, the m2 we have is a 2206 and it rides awesome. That being said we’ve been in some really bad chop and it doesn’t bother us. No beaten teeth or hurting backs when we get off the water. This boat is extremely dry as well, we have ran it wot across open bays and taken it 15 miles offshore to the rigs without getting wet. All that plus being able to get up easily in a foot of water is amazing. We have a 2017 with an evinrudge 200 g2 and have been 100 percent impressed with it. No complaints here.

You didn't ask but my 2 cents...If I were buying a new boat for the area you described (I have fished there my whole life) I'd suggest one of the new cats, I really like the Mowdy, very versatile. The flat bottom boats are too rough for this old fat kid these days

The illusion is a great boat. (Even thought I went with the Extreme) Just had a 2019 built to order. I decided the v pad design instead just because how I fish. I went in expecting to go with the 25 illusion. No matter what, it would have been a Majek. I know a couple of people that have the Illusions and I have been on several. They are really good boats. Still dry boat for the type of hull and it is certainly skinny. Gook luck.

if you're set on the illusion, ride in the 25. It blows the 22 away in a chop. The hull price isn't much more than the 22, it will just cost you a little extra as it needs more motor to perform similar to the 22.
all you have to do is call ronnies marine and tell them you want to test ride the boats to compare...Last edited by kyle1974; 02-25-2019, 04:13 PM.

Ok thanks for the info. 25 ft is little more boat then I really want. Going between the 21 shoalwater cat and the m2. Have been in a 23 cat multiple times but never in a 21. Was thinking maybe the extra 1.5 foot on the m2 would level the playing fields on roughness and handleing the chop between the two. Just really like the finish of the majeks compared to the shoalwaters.

I would go with the shoalwater over the m2 any day of the week. If fact I didI have ridden in several m2s and they are just as rough as the illusions...as Kyle said pretty much the same hull.
I have a 21 cat with a 200 ho on it and love it. It will run as plenty skinny and have taken out the the rigs several times.

The 23 shoalcat is a better riding boat than the 22 illusion. All day long. I’ve never been in a 21 shoalcat. in that class, outside of finish like you said, the shoalcat is a better performing boat. The illusion runs a little shallower but you’re talking a 1-2” difference.
I’ve been running 25’ bay boats for 8 years now. I won’t ever go back to a smaller boat. You don’t give up anything with a bigger boat.
Majek might be coming out with something new though. Might keep your eyes peeled.Last edited by kyle1974; 02-25-2019, 09:22 PM.
