This is what happened to my 7.3. It left me stranded and the mechanic went and put some diesel in it and she ran like always.

was there any symptoms, or did it just cut out on you?

Right before it stoped, it did seem like it could have been a full issue.

Yes. It started lugging and cutting out. I could press the accelerator all the way and it would barely run.

If this is it, I am going to be kicking my self. Gonna bring the battery charger and some diesel and check this.

I have bought and sold many 7.3 fords. i have experienced the fuel pickup problem ( Fuel umbrella) but only in '01 to '03 models. The ONLY 7.3L i ever had quit was a 97 with 350k miles on it. I was the second owner of the truck and bought it with 310K. The truck was running fine and just stopped running like you turned the key off. I had it towed to a shop and it turned out not to have enough compression to fire. It would turn over and blow white smoke, but never fire. Hope this helps. GLWS

Could even be as simple as a plugged fuel filter or low fuel pressure for some other reason. If it’s low on oil in the top end it won’t fire the injectors. They must have sufficient oil to fire.

If it’s sucking air somewhere in the fuel system it will also have similar symptoms. Would be great if you could borrow a pressure gauge with the hose and any adapters needed to hook it up to fuel system and get an idea of how much fuel pressure there is when cranking.

I do not believe it is a compression issue.

I think this is more in line of the small issue it has. I however do not have the time to mess with it and it is far from a shop.

I’d haul it to the shop and see what’s going on. If it’s cheap get it fixed and you’ve got a bad *** lease truck. If it’s more than you want to spend get rid of it.
