    Electrical Question

What size generator will it take to run an AC 225 arc welder?

    #2
I would say atleast a 12kw generator for 50amps. But I'm not sure how well it would work on a generator either.

I run my lincoln with a 6500 just fine. Just burn a rod or two and give it a break. No problems.

Rule of thumb for electrical calculation is to always size for the biggest load, which would be 50 amps at max amperage for your welder. However you most likely wont weld on that amperage. IF you were to weld at half setting on your welder, youre still looking at 5800kw, and thats a continuous load or running watts. Half or less will decrease the load even more. I dont recommend you do that, but take it for what you will, its your equipment.
