    Changes to Colorado Draw System

Anyone notice that now you have to buy either a Spring Turkey License ($151) or a Small Game License ($81) just to put in? That's even if you want to buy a preference point (unless I'm reading that wrong). Since this is non-refundable it will make the cost to apply a bit higher now. For some of y'all it's just a drop in the bucket. For us poor-folk it means about $100/year to build up points. Granted, the unit I want to draw is guaranteed with 3 points but still.

Yep. And it's going to go up next year..

Sheep, Goat, and Moose are now $100 each for point fees that can't be waived. And that doesn't include the other fees like app fee, habitat stamp, etc.

I’m pretty sure last year you had to pay fees per species if you didn’t hold a tag the year before. So it’s probably a wash if you apply for more than 1 species.

Scratch that. Just looked at the new book. Didn’t relate they made you pay the fee even if you held a license the year before.

Kinda ridiculous you have to pay a license fee even if you’ll be getting an OTC tag after you apply for PPs. I buy the small game anyways but still.

And we all wonder why poaching is a problem. Pricing everybody out of hunting, same goes for leases.

So if I have the points I need, to draw what I'm applying for, can I just buy the non-res license instead of a small game? If I buy a small game while applying in March, will the small game license be good if I go to Colorado in June or July (are there season dates for small game or is it year round)? Does small game cover coyote? So many questions!

Arizona is the same way. I had to buy a license there and had it start on the 12th so I would be able to put in for next years also.

I’m hoping that the fee increase and the PP fee kicks out all the people who started applying last year when it was 3$ for moose sheep and goat.

I’m sitting on 5 points and want to draw a tag at some point in my life lol.

Exactly this. Last year a ton of people applied when it was basically free. Glad they put a stop to this, it will stop the point creep. Good luck pulling that tag!

OP, if the unit you want was 3 points, and they kept it the way it was last year, it would go up to 4 this year, 5 next year, 6 the following year, until most people just stop trying. That high buy in weeds out those that apply just cause.

Boom! Couldn't have said it better myself.

As for the comments of trying to keep the poor man out, comes down to budgeting and how important hunting is.

I kind of got snubbed this year, bc I purchased a license last year and wouldn't have had to pay for points this year.

However, I am fine with it and hope it works in my favor vs not.

Pretty much same here; went OTC last year and was going to just get points in Co. this year and go with buddies who will have tags. Oh well, I'm certainly not complaining and like others said, helps the odds in the long-run.

At 59, I go OTC and go chase elk. Forget about the point system. A 260 bull eats the same as a 360 bull and the adrenaline rush is the same. One is just more weight to carry out. Not that I would mind carrying out that much more weight
