Well we caved in and gave this good lookin guy a forever home yesterday. Meet “Camo” our ~3 month old Labahoula! (Lab/Catahoula mix)
Long story short, we had been waiting for the right time to get a “big dog” puppy for our family. Our kids have only known our little ankle biter teacup Maltese who was acquired through a sick family member and not a super social dog to begin with. I grew up owning and training Labs and also had Great Danes and Springer Spaniels so I always had big dogs around out in the country where I lived in MS.
My wife has never owned a big dog and was against it and the shedding, but she saw this guy’s picture on the Rescue Row FB page and couldn’t stop thinking about him. She was determined to get him. He was apparently dumped outside of Waxahachie with a mother and some siblings when he was found. He was a little shy at first, but he’s taken to us very well and is even retrieving his duck toy to hand. I’m gonna give him a few more days to get acclimated to our environment and then start the obedience training, but man he’s already so good and calm to be a puppy. Crate trained and goes the bathroom outside. Kind of feel lucky for him to already be past those stages.
I foresee many great memories with our kids and if I do my part he’ll pickup doves, ducks, and track blood too...or he’ll just be an 80# lap dog! Lol My kids are absolutely in heaven right now and that’s what it’s all about!
