        Yep. I used to work for a very large company, full of engineers and Phd folks.
        There were a few that stood out and knew what they were doing but a sad high % were clueless, didn't work well with others, afraid to work, etc. etc. You could tell the ones that had actually worked with their hands before, the others were scared to use them.

          Interesting question. The short answer is yes, it can hurt him. As you read the comments above, you understand why that is the case. Is he SOL? Probably not. The biggest question is why does he have a 2.75. If hes working, going to class and doing all he can, his work ethic will get him a job in the future even if its harder to get that first good job. If hes just a slacker and skating by because its more fun to play games, hes probably going to have a hard go of it.

          Im not going to get into what is the right hiring practice because every company is different. Right now in Dallas if you have an engineering degree you can get a job.

            What amazing timing....

            Up until yesterday, I had never hired a single engineer, but now I'm in charge of the hiring of engineers for the two largest counties in Florida.

            I can't wait to start asking about their GPA's --- some of these guys are in their 50's and 60's

              GPAs matter for the big companies. I had told my son he needed to be in top 10% in high school. Told him keep above 3.5 in college. Told him internships help, he had 2. Had a couple good interviews at big companies. Went with LM. Happy for him.

              Not saying that folks with lower GPAs are less capable. But the kids with higher GPAs will have an advantage.

                This miorror's my sons plans to a "T". He's got the high school part down...

                got academic scholarships...just need to continue his journey on the road he's on.

                He is just not quite sure of the engineering discipline just yet.
