Anyone build houses?!

I’m wanting to build My own house ( me be the contractor) and cut of the middle man.
I own land but would need to build on it, i am in the process of getting my land surveyed. Working on preliminary plans Friday ( tomorrow) and will finalize them once survey is done.
Anyone have any tips , do’s and don’ts.
I called the city to see what I would need to apply for the building permit and there was something I just don’t get, even after googling them like :
Wind storm
Manual J
Rest check

I’m sure someone could help me out!

What city?

Most all of that has to do with the energy efficiency of your house. Manual j is a HVAC calculation
Res check is an energy efficiency deal, and windstorm is an engineering deal and inspection.

That's odd they require windstorm, i thought that was only required if the county touched the gulf. Either way your architect can include all that in your plans and your local carpenters will know what is required. All my houses had to have that done, not a big deal just don't skip an inspection point.
