    What the heck!!!

The other day a few buddies of mine and I were talking about cookin up rabbits to eat and the best way to cook them. They have never tried it and asked if I had. I said yes I had and they asked if I ate jackrabbit or cottontail. Which I replied,I had only eatin cottontail rabbits. One of my buddies said "It's because jackrabbits eat dead bodies huh?"

I had heard this once before from a girl I know. She asked me the same thing about jackrabbits. My buddies and the girl are all Hispanic, which I'll bring up because I've never heard a white, black or asian person say that. Has anyone else heard this? I'm guessing it's an old school myth from Mexico but who knows. I don't know how that ever got started. To my knowledge I've never seen a jackrabbit eat anything dead.

I've always heard jackrabbit taste like crap so I never have messed with trying to eat one. My first thought when I was told that didn't have anything to do with dead bodies though. I suppose that would give it a little extra gamey flavor or something.

Jackrabbits in Mexico must be huge.

                  Jackrabbits are herbivores.

So if your names not Herb you don't have to fear them?

They're a drug smugglers worst enemy. Silly rabbits always after their herb.

Does it matter? Wild hogs will go after any old carcass and they are great to eat

I have eaten jackrabbits (hares) you just gotta braise them for a few hours as they are tough, but pretty tasty.

All herbivores will eat animals on occasion; we've all seen a deer eat a baby bird, jackrabbits will do the same.

If you cook them long enough they are not tough as shoe leather they are fine.

Sounds like a candidate for the insta-pot/pressure cooker to me. as a poor guy in college, we'd hunt on the weekends for rabbits and squirrels and take them back to school where we'd cook 'em in the pressure cooker -- meat falls off the bones -- then make up some dumplings.
