    Getting rid of mistletoe?

I have several trees on my lot that have sprouted a lot of mistletoe on their upper branches. I want to get rid of it before it gets out of control and eventually kills the tree. I know that just cutting it out won't help since it is rooted into the branches. From what I have read there is some type of herbicide that can be sprayed to kill it. However since it is at least 35' up and on thin branches I would have to hire an arborist to do it. I also read that if you wrap each clump in black plastic and leave it for a year, it will die and not come back. That does not sound like something I want to do. Does anyone have other ideas or experience with this?

To quote myself, at 35-40' up it is too high in the tree for me to safely reach. Even if I did cut it out, it will just grow back. I want to kill it to prevent damage to the tree.

Get you a porcupine. They eat it and do a pretty good job keeping it at bay. Other than that, I haven't found a good solution to it.

I've just used a pole saw and cut it off. One of the lower branches I could reach with my ladder, i wrapped in saran wrap. Can't really tell if one worked better then the other, as its been over a year and both show little to no signs of new growth.
