Another "I hate a thief" thread

So this may get lengthy, but something happened to me that I never thought would happen last week. I came home from work to find my house had been broken into. The back door was completely busted off the door jamb. The suspect scaled an 8 ft. fence to get into my back yard.

After doing a quick overview of things with the police in my home, we realized a few things were missing. Quite a bit of my wife's jewelry, a half a bottle of Crown Royal (he/she obviously doesn't know their bourbon because there was a bottle of Woodford Double Barrel sitting right next to it), and the fool took my bow, case and all!

All things that could be taken in one trip. Unfortunately, there were not any cameras around to see anything. That has changed, as I made a trip this weekend and bought some, and so have several of my neighbors.

I do not own any guns, only because I never really grew up around guns, and I have 2 small children at home. This will change in the near future. So, I may be asking for future help as far as carrying, and home defense.

Everything that was damaged can be fixed, and everything that was taken can be replaced, but the fact that someone was in my home that wasn't supposed to be there. This is what I can't get over! It's not likely that this person will come back, but he/she knows what I look like, and what my family looks like.

Everything is in the Police Department's hands at this point, and I trust their abilities and am thankful for their duty and availability. I would encourage anyone, no matter how safe you think your neighborhood is, to at least go out and get some cameras.

Thanks for letting me vent GS!

Hate a thief. Remington 870 w 8 shot is the best home defense. 8 shot wont have much impact if it goes through a wall keeping the kids safer and there is no mistaking the sound of a pump shotgun. Just my .02.

Sucks for sure, do you have a dog by chance?

Had our vehicle broken into on the first day of our honeymoon. Ruined the week knowing someone had come into our vehicle. Can't imagine my house being burglarized.

No dog. We had one until last summer, my 3 year old got bit in the face. That's a whole other story. So, we haven't had a dog since that incident.

Did they leave you a note thanking you for all of your hard work in order to buy the things they took? **** I hate thieves more than anything.

I am a racist against thiefs and crack heads. Shot them on site or string them up.

A dog is not a bad idea. We have a mini schnauzer that will raise all sorts of heck when someone approaches our house. Probably no match for a thief at a whopping 13 lbs but certainly is a deterrent by stirring up all kinds of noise. Hate to hear this.

IMO get u an 870 with 6 shot. For personal carry get u semi a to pistol in 9mm with 15 or 17 round clip. As far as a dog, get a boxer. Great with kids and one of best watch dogs ever. Easy to train

I'm sorry for what you and the family had to go through. You have some security gaps to fill. Like with video and a good safe. A dog is a great addition, no matter how big or small. Their hearing is unsurpassed.
