    arrow rest and arrow wraps?

I noticed there a several types of arrow rest what are the differences between a whisker biscuit and a fall away? Also what do the arrow wraps do? Please bare with me as I dont know squat about bows

Also how do I determine what length of arrow I need.Like I said before everyone I know gun hunts and most of them hate on bows but I love the way a bow fells when you pull it back.

No worries! The difference in rests is REALLY personal preference. I have a bow with a fall away and I have one with a WB. I like them both.

As far as arrow wraps go, all they do is personal your arrows and make them look AWSOME. And they help support our resident poor college student who makes them (Hi Cameron )

The best way to determine arrow length is to put an uncut arrow in your bow, draw it back, have someone mark the arrow just infront of the rest. Typically an arrow will extend 1/2 inch to two inches infront of the rest.

A rough estimate of your arrow length will be just a little bit shorter than your draw length. For example my Draw length is 30.5 inches and my arrow length is 30.25 inches and it extends 3/4 inch infront of my rest. This will vary with bow and rest combinations.

OK now the harder questions. Whisker Biscut is just one example of a Full Containment Rest and it does just that it fully contains the arrow (octane hostage is another popular FC rest). Fall Away rest, like the Trophy Ridge Dropzone, fall away from holding the arrow. Search Youtube and you can find tons of good archery videos.

      Pros and Cons of each

      Full Containment
      Pros
-arrow will not fall off bow
-simple to install simple to use
      Cons
-brushes may be affected by weather (rain, cold etc)
-will slow the arrow down (not really sure how much but does cause some drag)
      -brushes wear out, need replacing

      Fall Away
      Pros
      -can make arrow faster
      -can make bow more accurate
      Cons
      -arrow can fall off rest
-can be complicated, more things to break
-springs, strings wear out need replacing

I shot a Whisker Biscut for three years and killed many a deer and rabbit, it is great if you move around alot. When I updraded bows last year I also upgraded rest to a Fall Away (Limbdriver) and so far I love it.

Hope this helps, and don't worry by registering here and asking questions you are alot further ahead than I was when I started bowhunting.

Arrow wraps make refletching a much easier job and make it a little easier to find your arrow. Sometimes vanes stick better to a wrap than the shaft.

I personally like wraps because the fletching tend to stick better to a wrap than to the arrow itself though I've had little trouble with the latter method. IMO it is easy clean up of the arrow for refletching when using wraps also.

Arrow wraps are basically for looks ( and they look goooooooooooood) but do make refletching a little easier. Arrow rests are totally a personal choice. I shoot a RipCord fall away and love it because you can "manually" place it in the upright position and the arrow will not fall off the rest. It has a bar placed at the top of it that keeps the arrow from coming off even if you turn the bow completely upside down. Anyway, you're doing right by asking for opinions but the choice is going to be all yours. The only suggestion I can really give you is get what you really want. Don't settle on something for $20.00 less just to come back and replace it in a year or two.

Welcome to the world of archery.
Your draw length should be determined before anything happens, that way the bow can be set up for you and your draw length, then the correct spine of the of the arrows will be determined by the draw length and poundage of the bow, and then cut to the correct length and from that point it is all about how you want to trick out the bow.

Archery is about being consistant in all things, don't mix and match arrow brands and spine's,
always anchor in the same spot,
                always stand the same way,
always follow through the same way,
always always hold the bow the same way,
do this with relaxed muscle's, that way you will have consistancy when shooting.
                Good Luck and Enjoy
