    Cell phone blue light filter

Anyone here ever used a blue light filter for your cell phone? If so, what brand did you get? Looking for something to decrease eye strain. See a lot of them online but I don’t want to waste my money on something that doesn’t work.

I use glasses and it makes a huge difference! I use the glasses when using a computer, too. Now I can see at the end of the day.

Most phones have a night time setting that does that.

What symptoms were you having? Are all the glasses the same?

My Galaxy S8 Active has a soft button called "blue light filter" and it changes the screen display. Seems to make a pretty big difference in visuals but I don't stare at my phone all day so probably not a huge deal overall.

What phone do you have? ios has night shift that somewhat does that. Before that f.lux worked well. I think you can get f.lux on android devices. It lets you adjust the warmness of the colors.

Extreme dry eyes, which led to headaches and very blurred vision. All I wanted to do at the end of the day was close my eyes. I'm not sensitive to bright light but I look at a computer all day. When I got improvement with the computer, I started using them for the phone, too. My vision is much more clear and I can see quite well at the end of the day.

I actually had 2 reasons for asking. 1. I know glare is produced by light on the blue end of the spectrum and that its bad for your eyes. 2. I also know that deer can see much farther into the ultraviolet side of the color spectrum, and having had several deer spook when I lite up my phone (inside a dark stand in full daylight outside), I thought it would be something worth experimenting with. Dont know if the phone is why they spooked, but I figured it couldnt hurt, and the health benefits to my eyes would be a plus.

I have been needing to go to the optometrist for a while now. I can see well enough to pass my eye test at the DMV, but Im having issues with light sensitivity, especially in low light situations, trouble focusing from near to far, and occasionally seeing halos or ghost images around a clearer image. I dont stare at my phone for long periods of time, but I do a computer. I have have noticed that when I do use it for longer than a few minutes the issues seem to present themselves. Ive also noticed that nighttime glare while driving is bad too. Might have to look into those glasses as well.

The blue light filters or glasses will help you a lot. I didn't even know about the cell phone filters until last week.

From what I have read, this doesnt actually eliminate the amount of blue light like a physical filter does. Im sure it helps some, but I want to have a physical barrier.

I tried some fairly expensive non-prescription glasses for work (I'm IT) and can't wear them more than 15 minutes or so. I didn't have any problems to begin with though, just thought it was good preventative thing.

You folks buying these should read this article from the eye experts.

There is no scientific evidence that the kind or amount of light coming from computer screens is damaging to the eyes. The Academy does not recommend any special eye wear for computer use.

I dont care what they say. I can tell a difference. A major difference with and without them. From itchy eyes, to head ache and TMJ. For 20 bucks it is a no brainer. Dont knock them till you try them. Not just the PC screen but the bright florescent lights i sit under.
