like both shows....i have always liked M vs W better, but the other day i did see a camera man reach out his hand to help Bear out of some sort of pit....looked like, to me, he could have worked his way out.....anyway, i know i couldn't do half of what they do....good shows

I could watch survivorman all day... I am not a huge fan of M vs W

Why I like Les Stroud in Survivorman... No Camera crew, always tries to start a fire naturally before using a flint unlike bear, more cautious then Bear because he is alone... smart! He does not get to choose what is in his survival pack unlike Bear, Les shows his mistakes when he makes them unlike Bear, cooks his meat because he can... doesn’t drink elephant dung, and his show makes you feel like you are there!

Bear was busted for staying in hotels during one of his seasons. Google "TV 'survival king' stayed in hotels"" and you can see the article and now there is a big disclaimer before his show starts. It is more like a reality show then a survival show. Its hard to take him seriously when you know he will be at a resort in a couple hours... just my .02

I really think that Survivorman is more about staying alive in some remote location for 7 days and awaiting rescue.M vs W is more about surviving all the worst case Situations one might face. Both good shows,I like M vs W.

              Bear rules!

I have read Bear Grylls books, "The Kid who Climbed Everest" and "Facing the Frozen Ocean". The man is no fake. He may have to stage some feats for his show, but his experience, desire, and guts go far beyond that of normal men. He has made a living doing what he loves, and gives inspirational speeches about his adventures worldwide. His books also show an insight towards his humanity, humility, and respect for nature. They are both inspiring reads, full of details and introspective thinking that really tug at one's adventurous side. After reading them I have a whole new respect for him as a family man and kick butt explorer.
