We had a fire burn up our place in 2011 (before we were on it) and there was only one mature oak (live oak) on the property that I have found. We do have some regrowth shin oak in the back of some of the canyons and ridge tops. I haven't seen an acorn one on the shin oak anywhere in the six years we have been out there until this weekend. They are full of acorns this year. I'm pretty pumped that the deer have a good protein source, though it will probably just result in fat November pigs.
Headed west tomorrow for my first hunt if season. Taking my oldest who’s a senior this yr to try and put down an old pig of a deer. Will be by far her best to date. Gonna be warm but hopefully the good Lord will shine upon us. Being a varsity basketball player she really only gets about 3-4 hunts per yr.
He is a regular and as long as he isn’t bedding right by feeder when we walk in we should get it done Saturday am.
Will update soon as we can.
