    PSA - recaulk your tub(s)

Well duh. Of course you need to recaulk and do maintenance on your house. I guess what I’ve learned the hard way is to periodically go looking for problems. We have two upstairs full bathrooms and both tubs have given us problems. I occasionally checked both over the the years, but they both snuck past me due to my own complacence.

The caulk at both tubs pulled away from the wall underneath the faucet. For one of them the problem is an easy fix/repair. Scraped the old caulk and put in new and had to tear out a small section of wet drywall that will have to be replaced and painted.

The other tub didn’t look as bad upon inspection but caused way more damage. The fixture apparently started leaking when it’s turned on and water runs down the wall onto the faucet, where the caulking has pulled away.

    This...

...allowed water to get in the wall and drip from upstairs to the first floor and cause the hardwood floor to rot

Not only do I now have to replace that section of floor I also have to tear out the wall to make sure no mold has grown. This back corner of the room is behind furniture that we moved into place shortly after Harvey so who knows how long the drip has occurred.

So yeah it’s dumb on my part but check those upstairs tubs and any plumbing in the attic before it gets away from you.
