Old Ended and New Began The Same

2019 began the same way 2018 ended. No luck. I will say I didn't get to hunt as much as I would have liked to. However, when I did hunt, I didn't see much. I tried plain ol corn, corn with vanilla, corn with koolaid and some other hocus pocus stuff that was twice the price and the bag was 20 lbs smaller. Scent free didn't work. Smelling like a cedar tree didn't work and I didn't try smelling like a doe in heat this year because one year the bottle came open and spilled in my bag and that was a stinkish nightmare for months.

And what kills me is all the big monsters that were killed this season. So, I would pm the lucky hunter and ask what did the buck come to, corn, chasing a doe, grunt call, etc., etc. And the answer was always the same, "never see him before. He was just passing through. Come on, give me a break. I didn't see any deer "just passing through." How did ya'll get so lucky? What kind of major deer highway corridor are you sitting on? Some kind of deer I-35? Well, please make a loop around your place and have an exit at my place. That would be nice.

Seriously though, I believe the weather kind of messed up the hunting a little maybe this year. There is always next year.

I'm not butt hurt though. That is hunting. I put in as much time as I can when I can the best I can. It is what it is. I will try again next year.

CONGRATULATIONS to ALL of the lucky hunters this year and have a Blessed New Year.

P.S. If you don't mind helping a brother out, tell me what gimmick worked for you to put meat in the freezer this year and I will try a new list next year.

You might try Coors Light or Bud Light. Seems to work great at our place. I don't think you have to pour it on yourself though. Just drinking a crap ton of it and leaving the empty cans in the stand seems to do the trick.

Be sure and road corn if you haven’t before. I got a road feeder on back of the hunting Jeep and I make a quick pass around my area feeding corn. Most deer will come to that before a feeder. I do this about an hour before sunset to let things settle down.

It was a good "corn year".

Try hunting the wind and save your money on the gimmicks. If you really have the money to burn, invest it in proper management or go where the big bucks are.

I'm just running 2 corn feeders on 40 acres. Thinking to switch to corn/soybean mix in a couple of months.

Hunting a place with plenty of deer but not seeing near as many this year because of plenty of green and acorns with the late rain. But the key to seeing them is to hunt where they are.
For years I hunted deerless leases. But everybody is a better deer killer where there are more deer.

I saw 4 or 5 bucks during the rut id never seen before. And have not seen since. If the place your hunting does not have a lot of deer then your not likely to see many deer. I dont know what you could do different, sounds like you tried just about everything. Maybe try a mineral lick ( youtube might be your friend) I'll be making one this summer. I hope you have better luck next year.
