Looking for a solid recommendation on an estate planning attorney. I called to make an appointment based on a recommendation from a friend this morning and the attorney had died. Ironic I know. Thanks in advance.

So the wife and I met with one of the recommended estate planners above. They explained the difference between a will and trust and highly recommended a family trust given we have 2 minor children. They were very detailed and gave solid advice based on their experience. They quoted $5k to set up the will, trust, powers of attorney’s, Hippa and primary residence lien transfer. They also said they would set up the firearms trust for Class 3 at no additional charge.
Overall, it seemed they were very detailed and never felt they were misleading in anyway. However, I have no baseline and struggling with the $5k fee for setting this all up. Granted there will require 2 meetings and a good bit of time pulling documentation and paperwork together. Does $5k sound right for your guys’s experience? Appreciate the help and likely may need to visit a few other estate planners to get a good feel for it all.

Agreed! I do estate planning also and it’s fairly rare that people need living trusts, in my opinion. Without knowing specifics, if you have minor children, I would suggest a testamentary trust as part of your will. Prices also seem high to me. I’d get a second opinion.
