I spent opening day of rifle season in the stand with my dad. Loved every minute of it. Not too sure how many more opportunities like that I might get. He talked the whole time also; loudly!

I wish I could sit in the blind with my dad, grandma or grandpa one more time

        Great thread

Glad to hear you guys were able to enjoy a hunt together. That memory will stay with you just like shooting a monster buck, but more special.

My dad was a bird hunter, not ever much of a deer hunter. He's still in good health but doesn't hunt much anymore. He'll go with me on occasion mainly because we both cherish the time together. Couple of funny things I've witnessed on those trips:

        1. He doesn't see much reason to walk to the blind in the dark. He stays in the truck and walks in once there's enough light to see

        2. I put him in a popup blind near a feeder once while I was hunting another stand and feeder. He mentioned to me afterwards how fascinating it was to be so close to the deer without them having any idea he was there. He proceeded to tell me how "a few times" he intentionally made a noise of some sort "just to see how the buck would react."

Priceless!!! Did I mention he wasn't ever much of a deer hunter?

Last hunt I was privileged to have with my father was great. I cherish the memory. He was basically wheelchair bound and I set up a pop up precious of us going for deer to get use to. Drove him out and wheeled him over and lifted pop up for him to get in to. Parked and walked back and we enjoyed a beer or three of his choice. Nice buck came out and he got to shoot it with with his retirement gift rifle. It takes more effort as they grow older but do not skimp or lack patience. You will never get it back. Myself or kids wouldn't have the love for it if not for him. Enjoy the time.

Don’t worry guys, I’m cherishing and loving every minute of it! I just find it comical how he can’t stop doing all the things he would get on to me for when he was teaching me.

Glad you got to make a hunt with your old man. I'm taking my dad on the 12th and 13th, it will be the first time we have deer hunted together since 2009. We are going to sit in the same stand so we can spend the most time together possible, plus I will have to wake him up to shoot.
