Had a great weekend in south Texas. Took a good cull 8 Thursday evening, then connected on a nice 5 year old 9 on Saturday. I was looking for a different deer, but my buddy had shot & wounded the 9 last Sunday morning, so my mind was made up to shoot him if I saw him. When he came by I noticed his wound looked much worse in person than it did on the trail cameras. He may or may not have made it, but he’d already lost a lot of weight due to the rut. Regardless, I put a Muzzy through him and he didn’t make it but 25 yards. I shot the 8 with a 3 blade Blood Runner, and he went about 50 yards before piling up. The 9 is my best deer to date with a bow, and went 130 & some change. My buddy also connected with a 7 year old cull the same evening. The rut was definitely in full swing. Happy new year!
