Special Statement
Issued: 4:09 PM CST Dec. 31, 2018 – National Weather Service
... A rain and freezing rain mix is possible Tuesday night and
Wednesday morning and again Wednesday night into early Thursday
morning across portions of The Hill Country...
A strong cold front on Tuesday coupled with a storm system moving
in from the west may produce periods of rain and freezing rain
Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and again Wednesday night
into early Thursday morning north of a Concan to Boerne to
Georgetown line. Precipitation is expected to spread northward
across the region Tuesday night as temperatures fall below
freezing in The Hill Country. At this time we expect a cold rain
for all areas on Wednesday. However, we do expect highs only a
degree or two above freezing in The Hill Country on Wednesday.
Precipitation chances will continue Wednesday night into Thursday
morning. As temperatures continue to cool, we do expect the chance
for rain and freezing rain to approach the I-35 corridor.
At this time, it still appears the main concern for any wintry
precipitation across south central Texas is expected to remain
primarily across The Hill Country. Ice accumulations are expected
to be light and remain generally below one tenth of an inch,
occurring mainly on elevated surfaces and objects. Additionally,
wind chills in the teens and twenties will be possible across The
Hill Country on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
This is still an evolving forecast and locations of freezing rain
and potential impacts will be adjusted as the event draws closer.
Those with travel plans through The Hill Country and central Texas
will want to stay tuned to the forecast over the coming
