    4 wheeler electrical issue

Replaced battery and replaced starter relay several times. Bike will crank about 50% of the time using the electric start.

Turn key on, bike in neutral, all dash lights are on. Most of the time when you hit starter you hear the relay click and all dash lights go out. Pull the rope to start it and all the lights will come back on. Some times when bike will start you can hear the relay clicking really fast.

Could a bad starter shut the whole electrical system down? This is a 2001 Yamaha Kodiak.

Bad battery/cable connection at one end or the other. A little, sometimes invisible, corrosion will cause your problem.

I’ve put 4 different ones on it in the last two weeks. No change in behavior with all of them.

Mine does this when starter is sticking. I should replace the starter but tapping it firmly with a brass hammer or heavy stick always seems to do the trick.
