It was canceled because of three hours of lightning strikes in the facility of the stadium. Joe Montana didnt play threw a lightning storm.

I generally agree times are different but this isn't an example.

With NCAA lightning strike policies they would still be waiting. I am 45 minutes South of there. Its been raining heavily and lighting every 1-2 minutes since 4:00

LOL watching it on youtube now, the stands were pretty empty in 1979 too. Astro turf was in terrible shape, those poor guys were basically playing on concrete!
