Checking firearms while flying

Is there a whole lot to flying with a firearm? I’m flying with my bow and a rifle to Montana on the 5th and didn’t know how much time I should add onto my extra normal travel time to get my firearm checked. I’ve never had any problems checking my bow but this will be my first time checking a rifle.

Make sure to pull the bolt or put a trigger lock on it. Put ammunition in your checked luggage. Allow extra time to get with TSA. Should have no issues.
