Chevy 6.0 Reviews. Whose got one?

Looking at moving on to one of the 2016 Chevy 2500HDs and wanted to get some engine feedback on the 6.0 V8 Gasser

Not looking for a make or model comparison. Just views from those that are familiar with that engine.

    Thanks y’all!!!

    Great engine

As I’m sure many will tell you...you won’t win many races but can pull just about anything you need pulled. Not great on gas either as I’m averaging 13 highway and 11 in town

That being said I would definitely get another one

That engine is as dependable as the sunrise but like stated above don't be looking for 20 mpg. I've got a 2000 model with 242,000 miles that will use 1/2 qt. oil in 3000 miles. Just hope the next one does as well.

I drove a company truck to a little over 330k miles before the tranny gave out...engine was still solid.

Didn't have a lot of giddy-up but I feel it's the best gasser for longevity out there.

My old 2008 had a front main seal leak and was burning too much oil at 175k when i traded it in. Had no power and terrible fuel mileage. There's better motors out there.

I’ve had 4 that beat the hell out of daily. They’re as dependable as they come, but slow and gutless. Just to tell you how durable they are I had a 14’ model that had about 130k on it at the time. I was in Darby MT finishing up a hunting trip with my cousin when we got the call that his little sister had an accident and possibly wouldn’t make it through the night. I had a 16’ flatbed in with a side by side and 4 wheeler. I ran 95-100 the whole way home never shutting the truck off. Just stopping for gas. The truck lived at 4500 rpms the whole way for 23 hours straight, and never skipped a beat. I kept that one to 160k

I’ve got a 16 4x4 and only got about 55k on the truck so I can’t attest on the longevity but mine will get up and go when you push the gas, I average 14 mpg and 10-11 mpg when I hook anything to it. I’ve had zero problems with the motor or the truck so far.

Sounds like a majority are happy. And I’m leaning towards taking the plunge. My concerns are for longevity as I put 450 miles a week on my truck, I certainly am not racing anyone

I had one in a GMC 2500 and loved it. Wish I had it back.

My wife’s truck is 2500, 6.0 GMC Sierra. It will get up and go, and pull anything we need to pull. If you’re worried about gas mileage, then don’t get this truck cause it 13-15 is all you will get.

I’ve had two of them, both 2002 models, my little brother (got it after me when I graduated HS) trades it in with 207,*** miles and it never had any majors problems. I then got another 2002 1500HD with the 6.0 and traded it in at 167,*** miles and it never gave me any problems either. They both pulled trailer just fine, they liked gas tho, but the one I had in HS got 10 mpg whether I was pulling doing 80 or just regularly driving doing 80, it was consistent!

I put 199k HARD miles on my first 6.0 in 18 months, and it didn’t get turned off very often. Probably had enough engine hours on it to replicate double the mileage.Youll be fine as far as longevity goes.

Father in law had a 2002(?) With 275k and sold it 4 years ago. I still see it pulling asphalt paving machines weekly.

He put brakes and a fuel pump on it

Got two 2500s with the 6.0 for work one new and one old. The new runs great with plenty of power and the old one has a ton of miles with unmeasurable amount of idealing time. They have been great engines for us but MPG is in the 13 range.

I have a ‘16 GMC 2500hd with 6.0.. like stated above they will get around 13 mpg. They don’t have a ton of power while pulling. Without a trailer it will go and go.
