The pic with the dog definitely looks a lot bigger than a yote. DNA wont lie!

I trapped a lot of similar looking ones in the 70's and early 80's. We always knew those "brushwolves" had a lot of Red Wolf in them. Some of them weighed as much as 70 pounds. Pure coyotes weighed less and the coloration was different. Don't see why that recessive gene couldn't surface from time to time.

DNA should provide all the information needed but there will always be doubters. I had a friend tell me he saw a "wolf" a few months ago just south of here and I told him that they haven't been seen in decades. He said it was bigger than most yotes and the color was different. It would be pretty cool if I was wrong on my identification, which I don't mind admitting, and it being a canid with a higher strain of Mexican Red Wolf.
