    Night Hunting ??

Obviously illegal for game animals and I heard it could cost you over $50k if you do but that isn't what this thread is about.

Night hunting for hogs, predators etc is widely talked about but I never hear anyone talk about hunting exotics at night. As far as I know it is legal and if not the discussion can stop there. It seems like there are always discussions about a big axis that someone can't get on but I never hear or see suggested to hunt them at night. So, do I just not hear about it, is it done but not talked about or just not done? If it isn't done, what is the reason? The only thing I can think of is that it isn't considered sporting like shooting a dove out of a tree. What am I missing?

I have never hunted or had the opportunity to hunt exotics so I was just curious. We have had a red deer show up on trail cameras a couple of times so maybe that is where my question is ultimately stemming from. If he walked out at after dark could/should I shoot him?

Hunting exotics at night is perfectly legal but it has not become popular as of yet but in the years to come I think it will. I have a lease in South Texas that we shoot Nilgai at night with red lights and night vision. It's the only way to get it done since the lease is just a open field they feed in and cross only at night. I know a few people that will hunt other exotics at night. I do know that M&K outfitters hunts exotics at night and there are a couple others outfitters I know of that do but there are not many.

Hmm good question I live in Texas I went on a hunt in south Texas and a kid was going to shoot nilgai with night vision and that is considered an exotic animal even though it's like a pig introduced so I would assume yes if you have night vision or pretty good Spotlight I say go for it but I would like I said check out my local laws I'm not exactly an expert

I have never hunted exotics at night but I have done my fair share of NV hunting. Most of the animals I see have no clue I am there until I am pretty close. So to me it doesn't seem very sporty. They can't use all of their senses to detect me so it puts me at a much larger advantage.

We run dogs under the full moon for hogs in Florida. I was not aware of legal nite hunting in Frio county Texas where I hunt. I think exotics are desired to be filmed and why you don’t hear about nite hunting them.

Hunting Axis at night is often suggested on this forum. I haven't been around long, but have heard the suggestion in person, and have seen it on this forum when somebody is trying to get an elusive Axis buck... you will see the "hunt them at night if they are getting too spooky on you" responses. And it isn't a terrible idea because during the rut in the heat of the summer... it is probably more bearable at night than during the day.

I've never thought about that before. Interesting.

              "What'd y'all get last night?"

              "5 coyotes,8 hogs,3 raccoons and a Gemsbok ."

That conversation might raise a few eyebrows.

100% legal. Same reason as to why there is no season on exotics. Thry are a non native species

I have hunted hogs at night and it is a hoot. I have shot quite a few Axis bucks, but never big ones above 25" main beam and never at night, always at dawn. I have stayed late in my stands after hunting whitetail looking for that big axis i get on cam, but never during the day. Still have not be able to nail him. But axis hunting at night is fun and promising. If you have the opportunity to hunt axis at night, do it...mon do it

We hunt axis and other exotics in Leakey at night all the time and our night hunting has a 100% success rate. Sometimes that's the only time that you'll see them.

How do you hunt them at night? I mean, are you stalking or sitting over a feeder? I've sat in the stand after dark a few times with a green spotlight but no luck yet.
