    Redfield scopes by Leupold...quality ???

Looking to put a scope on a Ruger 300BK bolt action.

Ben thinking bout Nikon or Vortex. Then I saw that Leopold owns Redfield scopes.

Question for folks who have them... Are the newer Redfield scopes Leupold good at a lower cost? Not gonna be shooting long range...mostly subsonic suppressed.

I don't want to go "cheap" but don't don't want to go overboard either. I just want something that will hold "zero" at 3x and say 9x

    thanx,

    thanx,
I have always liked Redfield. Have only bought one of the newer ones and it has been great. Have several older ones that I really like as well.

I couldn't decide on a scope for the same rifle. I don't know much about the Redfield. I ended up going with the Leupold freedom 3-9 with the tri moa reticle for hold overs. I was really wanting something 1x- but couldn't find one I really liked.

When the “new” Redfields were introduced, you could get them for around $150, when a VX1 went for $219. Now, they are close to $200 in many places, and the Leupold VX Freedom is $199.

Point being, for the same price, or maybe $20-$25 difference, why not just get the Leupold?? Resale (though never great on scopes) will be better on the Leupold.

I bought a Redfield Revolution scope two years ago for a 243. Nice clear optic and does what it’s supposed to do. The Revolution was supposed to be made at the same location as the Leupold scopes here in the USA with much the same quality and glass of the lower end Leupolds. The Redfield Revenge scopes I believe were made overseas.

Off topic a bit, but has anyone had an older Redfield, serviced by Leupold?

I can't vouch for the scopes, but my wifes Redfield binoculars are clearer than my Leupold binoculars and mine cost about $100 more...

I thought the newer Redfields were made by Weaver?

Not sure about the quality but the look sure went down hill.. They look cheap..

I have several of the old 80's model Redfields in the "Golden 5 Star" line that I wouldn't take for.. They are excellent and look very classy..

I bought one several years ago when they re-launched the product. Not knowing what to expect, I didn't have high expectations. I was just looking for something to throw on a new 22-250 I bought my young son knowing shots would be 200 yards or less. If it turned out to be a POS, I'd get something else. Here we are about 10 years later and it's still on that 22-250. We've killed a ton of stuff with the gun out to 275 yards. Got it zeroed and haven't had a single issue with it. It's not high end glass, but it does everything I need it to do.
