(Weekly Reading>>Genesis 41:1-44:17, Zechariah 2:10-4:7, John 6:1-71)
The Birth of Two Sons
(Genesis 41:46-57)
During the seven years of abundance, the land was so plentiful Joseph stopped keeping records, as the harvest was beyond measure. The grain was gathered and stored in the cities. During this fruitful period two sons were born to Joseph and his wife Asenath. The firstborn Joseph named Manasseh (Causing to overlook), saying, “God/Elohim overlooked all my labor and all the house of my father.” The second son he named Ephraim (Double fruitfulness), declaring, “God/Elohim reproduced me in the land of my affliction.”
After years of plenty, the seven years of famine began just as Joseph had said. The famine was not only in Egypt but also in the surrounding lands. The people from all the countries come to Joseph for food. They were dependent on him for their very survival.
Prophecy Fulfilled
(Genesis 42)
In time, Joseph’s father Jacob learned there was grain in Egypt and sent his ten sons down to buy grain for the family “so that we may live and not die.” When Jacob’s sons arrived in Egypt, Joseph recognized them but they did not recognize him as his Egyptian appearance and high position concealed his true identity from them. They could not yet see, as their hearts were still covered with guilt for what they had done to Joseph. When one dwells in the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil you are deemed wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked. There was no doubt this is what was happening to Joseph’s brothers. When you eat from this tree you are dysfunctional. Yahweh’s kingdom becomes distorted, and you lose your way, as there is only wilderness in that kingdom. With murder still buried deep within the brother’s hearts and without repentance, Joseph’s brothers would not be able to see, hear or recognize Joseph even though he was standing face to face before them. We also see they could not survive on the food they had at home as this food could not sustain them (Revelation 3:17-18).
Joseph was at peace with Yahweh and at peace with the process he needed to go through for the preservation of his people Israel. Joseph’s heart remembered the dreams given him earlier by Yahweh and now the time had come. He also held onto the prophesy Yahweh gave to his great grandfather Abraham seeing that it was about to unfold in his generation.
“Your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions” (Genesis 15:13-14).
This Covenant to his great grandfather Abraham that was passed on to his grandfather Isaac and his father Jacob became the foundation that Joseph could stand firm on and would be the foundation that would also keep his family alive. Yahweh’s faithfulness and His living word was Joseph’s source of life and guidance. He saw he was the one chosen to bring this life to his family and that Yahweh’s dreams to him were about to unfold just as they were given.
The Stranger
Joseph was like a stranger and an alien to his brothers (Psalm 69:8). They would soon be tested as to the sincerity of their hearts. Yes, they were children of Abraham, circumcised in the flesh, but it is children of faith (circumcision of the heart) who are called Abraham’s true children.
Many believers today do not recognize the concealed identity of Yeshua. Joseph is a type and shadow of Yeshua and is clothed as a stranger in a strange land. Yeshua's identity is concealed from His family. Only under close examination will His family recognize His identity. In Egypt Joseph has taken on the clothing or identity of Egypt. Today in the nations Yeshua has taken on the clothing or identity of the nations. Many belivers today may be suprised to learn that under close examination Yeshua/Jesus is not a Greek but rather a Hebrew from the Tribe of Judah. Yeshua is Jewish. When believers come to know the true identity of Messiah and learn to walk as He walked then the divided family of Jacob (Israel) will become one.

Romans 2:28-29 “For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.”

Romans 11:13-15 "However, to those of you who are Gentiles I say this: since I myself am an emissary sent to the Gentiles, I make known the importance of my work in the hope that somehow I may provoke some of my own people [The Jews] to jealousy and save some of them! For if their [The Jews] casting Yeshua aside means reconciliation for the world, what will their accepting him mean? It will be life from the dead!"
