Whats the best most accurate 22 or 17

What is the best bang I can get for my money for an accurate and inexpensive 17 or 22.

Want something to use on small varmints and plinking. Would like to target shoot w/it also.

Marlin or Savage bolt actions will be your best buys out of the box. Can even get them with bull barrels. Next up would probably be the CZ line.

I have an older Chinese bolt action (NS-522) with a hammer forged barrel (slightly tapered) that shoots better than my tricked out 10/22. Only lightened the trigger on it.

Whatever you get in .22, try LOTS of different ammo. Every gun is different and hopefully it will shoot the cheap stuff really well.

Ruger 10/22 by far the best rimfire gun IMO. Also it is the most customizeable gun with many different stocks and barrels to choose from. Its also very accurate I've been able to knock down coke cans as far as 100 yards.

Savage 93R17 for a 17 hmr. Clean it often and try different types of ammo till you find one it likes. Should keep you under an inch at 100 yds if you do your part.

Buy a CZ and you will never buy another 22. Go to rimfire central and look what the CZ shooters say about them and the old BRNO's Well worth the money.

precision accuracy and inexpensive usually don't go together in the same sentence

there are a few exceptions to the rule which involves the 17 HMR.

as others have pointed out , the Marlin or Savage bull barrel 17 HMR is a tack driver

if you want a 22LR, CZ rifles are relatively cheap and shoot lights out (with right ammo)

If you can find a NS522, jump all over it . The rifles were clones to the Anschutz 54 action and built by the Chinese for their Olympic shooters in the 80's. Priced from $250 to $450 depending upon condition. I've seen some of these rifles outshoot $1000 Annies.

I owned one and like a fool, sold it. The were imported by Keng's Firearms out of GA. These guns were banned from importation during the first Wm.Clinton administration.

                      well if you must know

CZ CZ CZ. look at the 452 american. Bolt action with the feel of a full rifle. You wont believe how accurate they are. Fit to finish is nice too. Get one and dont look back!

Oh, believe me I will. I know what I have and it will be passed on for generations. I was able to get additional mags for it from the importer just after I bought it. I use it in Hunter Class Silhouette and my daughter shot it for several years in 4H Silhouette and Light Rifle. Took 1st place Light Rifle - Any Sights at State Games her final year in 4H with a 370 out of 400.

It is just too much fun to shoot an accurate .22...

P.S. The CZ definitely falls in the same category as the NS-522. Incredible accuracy for the buck.

I first heard about and saw them in person at the 1996 World RF Silhouette Championships in Winnsboro, LA. The NS makes a perfect light rifle as many steel chickens, turkey, pigs, etc.... were falling to the Chinese Anschutz copy.

There is a guy in Houston that does trigger jobs and he is the silhouette master gunsmith ....Evilio McDonald.

The NS522 makes an awesome squirrel rifle. I see 'em for sale about 1-2 x's per year.

I bought my daughter the Savage 17hmr with the overated accutrigger option and it's a tackdriver, just not sure what the hype is w/ the trigger.

Savage quality can't be beat for twice the price.
