    Pitts and Spitts Smoker/BBQ Pit

Does anyone own one or ever own one and give me some feedback on the quality of them?

I read on some other sites really good reviews but a few complained about not being able to keep the temperature constant.

Who knows something about these that can help?

They are top notch. But I'm a little biased since my 4 uncles started the business! Spent a lot of time at cook outs with the Pitts & Spitts team and can tell you that they are the real deal. Unfortunately my uncles sold out to a company awhile back and I can't get a discount. =( I've never heard the temp. complaints but I haven't been around them in about 10 years so things may have changed.

My dad has an older pit made by Pitts and Spitts. Very good pit. No complaints.

        Thanks Skeeter and Chew!

Keep the reviews coming because I am seriously thinking about pulling the trigger!

I can tell you one thing. THey are HEAVY!!!!!!! My neighbor bought one and I helped him get it off of the trailer. Even though it had wheels, it still left ruts in the yard. They sure are sweet through!

I have one that my FIL and his dad bought about 15 yrs ago and it is still in great condition. It is heavy and if you plan on putting it in the back of your truck make sure you tie it down. I thought I could go down the street with it (two houses down) and when I put the breaks on I put the pit through the back of my truck window. But as far as the pit I would not buy anything else.

Thanks Rem870Express, I am considering one of the trailer mounted ones for that reason.

Thanks bowhunter08! That is good to hear about a pit that has even lasted 15 years. I guess it says a lot about the quality! I am seriously considering one and just want to make sure.

Chew - were your uncles named Whitworth?

I went to school with Kendall Whitworth in Houston.

He gave me my first dip of snuff in 9th grade art class

Check out TheSmokeRing.com. Ask about them on there, you'll find out everything you even wanted to know and then some.

We have a small trailer mounted one at work. It cooks great and no complaints on heat.

My neighbor in Richmond (prior to my move) had 2. One in his back yard and one on a trailer. He is the guy pictured with the Texas Tech Midnight Smoker on their website. IMO they are the best pits around. We used to smoke every Sunday and we never had any temperature issues, well none that were not self inflicted due to too many adult beverages!

Good luck with your decision, but i know if you get one you won't be disappointed.

Yessir. Two uncles were Whitworth and two were Hartis. My mom is their little sister. Kendall is my cousin. We're the same age. Got in a lot of trouble together!

Here's a post about Kendall in another thread:

Pitts and Spitts was one of the best smokers I ever owned(until the ex took it)

If I hadn't build several other since, There would be one sitting in the yard right now.

They will last a lifetime if you take care of it. Probly one of the very best pitts made.
