    Going after target #2 buck??

Have a #1 target buck currently. Have not seen him in about a month. The back up buck is starting to show up later in the am, close to shooting time. Just curious when guys say screw it and shoot a different buck? Or do you go after that one buck all season? Just do not know if he has been shot or not.

Is buck #2 something you really “want” to shoot or just “think” you need to shoot a buck? Sounds like you don’t really like #2 but are going to settle on him?

If it trips my trigger when it walks in, I shoot it. If not, I let it walk!

Do you have history from year to year with your number one buck? If so does he come and go? I’m assuming no pictures in the last month? If number two meets your age and management goals take him and be happy. If he doesn’t let him go another year and he might become your number one buck next year.

Both bucks may not look old or atleast to me. But I have 4 years atleast of each buck. #2 buck has not grown hardly at all and looks dang near identical. #1 has blown up, and continues to get bigger just afraid he may be shot and I am chasing a ghost. Being 12 acres not much managing to be honest on my end. But I have never shot a good buck off this property in 5 years of hunting it.

There's a lot of season left.

                  Stick with your #1.

Would 2 be the largest buck taken on your 12 acres? If so, no shame in taking him if he presents and opportunity. If 1 has been around for 4 years, good chance he makes it back for year 5.

Me personally, I would be holding out for 1 in hopes he reappears this year. But I dont mind not shooting a buck every year.

Never pass a buck in the beginning that you’d be happy taking in the end

I understand the management aspect of it, but this why I dislike game cams. Takes away the fun in hunting because you have a list that you already know you’re hunting for. You always see that one big one that makes everything else you shoot feel smaller and less rewarding than what it is.

Just go out and hunt and if you see an animal you like, shoot it!

                            #1 is a stud...
Decide if you want a nice buck or want to hunt just one buck.
I’m hunting just one buck (a giant) and it’s stressful to be quite honest. I’m ready for me or my neighbor to kill him so i can go back to just hunting!

For sure I have been hunting him for a few years. It is stressful, just would like to know if someone else takes him or not. I will probably stick the #1, never seen him go dormant for this long. Part of it, we will see.
