Is it bad to leave them out for the whole season?

There's no upside to leaving them out, they'll fade and wear out quicker. Also you're educating birds on your property.

Pick them up, throw them in the blind and set them back out when you go hunt

25yrs ago when I did a whole lot of pond hunting we would carry a long cane pole with a coat hanger duct taped to the end to retrieve the decoys. Just had to be careful not to throw them too far from the bank.

I wouldn't leave them out all year.. They get nasty and covered in algae, fade, break, crack......plus it educates birds...I'd much rather hunt over a fresh set out set of decoys than decoys left out all year. Texas rig them if you are looking for a quick set up and pick up

I leave my decoys out during season. They will wear out faster, but I’m not picking up decoys every day.

Thanks for the input. This is all new to me. Last year I got some wood ducks off the pond and this is first time with decoys. Pole coat hook sounds like a good plan. Had to fish a duck out with a pole and twig tied to string last year.

Fishing rod and a weighted treble hook work as well. Tie on the treble, then take a short piece of line and tie it to the weight and tie that to one of the points of the hook so it is below the treble.

When ducks land in decoys they will realize they arnt real ducks and leave. So unless you live in an area that gets fresh ducks often it’s better to pick up your deeks.

They do wear out faster but I hvent noticed it affecting the quality of the hunting. My dad and grandpa never picked decoys up out of our holes in the woods. Heck we even left our jerk strings out when it was dry in the summer.

We leave our decoys in fields, now. May shift them around a little bit depending on wind, etc. but never pick them up.

Same. Instead of hanging around and making the hole a place they want to be and attracting more to stay all week while we were at work, they end up leaving and going somewhere else because of the fake ducks.... I'd rather have live birds attracting them to my ponds all week before we get our shot at them. We also change up spreads and go to different areas of the water depending on wind so they were there to make that change. Plus I like to take care of my **** and leaving dekes out all year is not conducive to any of that..

The ones I have, have Texas sets on them. Is there a way to string them together, may this jerk string you speak of?
