    how to kill a coyote

we live outside of town - had two young barn cats and they disappeared - I found coyote tracks

can they be trapped in a live trap? Snares will not work where I am and I do not think a leg trap will either - what do you bait a live trap with?

Call and AR15. Sounds like a cat call should work.

no you can't trap them. You shoot them. Get a predator caller and go to town.

Bad news though.. You won't be getting rid of coyotes any time soon. This will be a perpetual battle. Best bet is fencing. Make sure the cats and farm animals can easily escape.

I'd also bet the barn cats are still around if they are feral. Not an easy thing for a coyote to get on necessarily.

Also an amazing coyote protection system is a donkey. Google it. If you can afford it that's the way to keep them off the farm.

I've caught one in a live trap so it can be done. If it's young and not aware of the dangers of the world yet your chances are better. If not you'll want to use something else. A predator call and a rifle is what I'd use. But if all you have is a live trap might as well try it. Shoot a jackrabbit and throw it in the back of the trap, cover the bottom of the trap with grass and dirt. I'd probably wire it to the back of the trap just in case. The longer it's in there working on getting the bait out the more time it has to step on the plate to drop the door.

Old trapper in Uvalde would hang a chicken neck on a treble hook 7' off the ground, said they couldn't breath and died pretty quick. But if there were pet dogs in the area he wouldn't use this, called them in and shot them.

Why you say they won’t work?

Meat on a treble hook tied about 3-4 feet off the ground

I've done it in an area infested with coyotes. Didn't work. Did catch a grey fox even though there were very few grey fox in the area.
