Hiding from ducks

I got me and my buddies a spot to hunt ducks tomorrow out here in Lubbock. Back home near Gainesville we can just throw up two t-posts with some burlap and sort of brush it in and it works great. Will the ducks cooperate the same way out here?

Dig down and use layouts if possible, if not then set up in some grass if possible (i'm guessing its not?)

Its gonna take more than burlap for a successful hunt. Remember that you need cover above you and in front of you. Ducks look down from above. Most people build blinds like they are deer hunting but leave the top wide open. My most successful hunts are natural blinds. I spend some time cutting brush and limbs to make it look as natural as possible. Bring some buckets to sit on. If you can find a good tree to start with it will help. Put the buckets in front of the tree and build your blind around the tree.

Depends, most of the stuff I hunted in the Lubbock area, t posts and burlap will not cut it. Panel blinds will work if you're hunting a pivot but I've always preferred layout blinds brush in along a fence line.

Hard to say without knowing where you're setting up. If you're in a field and don't have layouts then dig out places for you to laydown and cover up with mudded burlap.

dig a hole to lay in and cover with the burlap and natural vegetation before you set up some barney looking Tpost contraption.

Don't try the t-post idea unless you want to hunt the first 15 minutes of shooting light. Once the sun gets up and starts silhouette'ing your 4' tall blind on the banks of a playa that's likely bare you'll be hosed. Guessing with all of the water this year I would try to find a little cover to get in if possible. Next thing I would do is go out there at dark tonight and dig you some coffins and mud up the burlap so it looks similar to the surrounding mud. Keep your shadows to a minimum so dig down a decent ways, also keep the decoys a decent distance from you so that the birds are focused on your decoys not you. Also if you have any full body geese put them in among you.

Now if it's a pile of teal/shovelers I wouldn't worry about it so much, I would just hunt.

The grass is like a foot-two feet tall but not all of us have layout blinds

like what was said. dig some coffins get some material mudded up and brush in that material with grass.

In my experience, the lay out blinds work best up there. Also digging out a spot and using the natural cover would work.

what type of field are you hunting over? I'm assuming some kind of crop being out there but you said you have grass about two feet tall. Is that just on the edges or is that the whole field, any water?

Layouts if you got them = lights out. If not you can probably get away with laying down in the grass using the burlap like a blanket and tossing some grass over you. Been successful many times doing that.

I’ve actually never felt like digging was all that necessary. In my early days we just used Avery grass mats. Eventually upgraded to layout blinds. Burlap with native vegetation zip tied should work fine as well.
