Just rope them from the top and get in the trap and hog tie them. Throw them in the back of the truck tied.

It doubles your pulling weight but it does not prolong the life of the winch. I don't know it may last longer doing what he wants to do with it but that's just what I know from using them 5-6 days a week, the 1500# and 2000# winchs don't last for anything.
