I never thought I would need one because I just wear rain gear. But on my first hunt of the season it rained all day every day and was in the 40's. Buddy i was hunting with had an extra one. It was Soooo much more comfortable. I was able to keep myself, my pack and my bow dry while in the stand. I dont tend to worry about my bow as much as the other things listed but it was big enough to cover it so I figured why not. When i got home i told myself I would buy one and throw it in my crate. Got to Academy and they had them on sale for 7.99 from 19.99 so I bought 3 lol...funny how that works. If i ever get another lease I'll have a receiver in each tree so that all i have to do is open the umbrella and stick it in the mount. You wont want to be screwing these in each time. they are pretty awkward

And it's cold when it does!!!Originally posted by Outlaw_6 View PostI’ve been using them for a while. Like mentioned above, make sure you install them high enough so you can still draw your bow. I’ve had one strip, so be careful not to over tighten into the tree.
They work but I still wear my rain suit with them. Rain sometimes will still run down the tree.

Hmmm
You can roll your eyes and be skeptical all you want. But rain drops dripping off tree branches above you onto a taught plastic umbrella make a distinct splat sound. It may be your experience that deer ignore that sound, but it was not mine. I distinctly remember still getting very wet despite using the umbrella and wishing that I had not purchased it because it caused me more trouble than it was helpful.

Used the cheap one last year (screw into the tree) and bought a Muddy brand umbrella this year. It’s hub style like a pop up and has several anchor points to keep it from blowing about. I used it when it was pouring rain and I didn’t get a drop on me, my backpack or my crossbow. By contrast, my buddy was a couple hundred yards away in a poncho and he was miserable. The cheap ones work fine in a pinch but I do prefer the Muddy hub style. They’re worth their weight in gold at $7.99-$35.00. Worth every penny.
