I’ve been wanting to take the plunge and start otc elk hunting in Colorado. If we can get a group together, I would like to be included.

A group of us from TBH went last year. I had the time of my life. A few things I'd say...don't spend a ton of money on new clothes or equipment. I wore my same hunting clothes I wear here and took the same bow I hunt with here. We camped 11 nights in a Walmart tent and were plenty comfortable. The only things that I spent extra money on, and I'd recommend you do the same, is good boots, a good sleeping bag, because it's gonna be cold at night, and a good pack. It's gonna rain every day in September at some point so take rain gear. I just used Frog Toggs.

If you don't count what I spent on boots, a pack and a new sleeping bag I probably had 1k or less total in my trip. Next year it's just gonna cost me fuel and a tag since I already have the other stuff. I don't count food because I've gotta eat no matter where I am so...

Just research units online and get up there and be ready to walk a LOT to find elk. It's a blast and just being in the mountains is well worth it. We saw quite a few animals but never connected. I learned a lot though and next year I'm bringing something home!!
