    Stuck in quicksand

It's not a call for help, everyones' out but just shows how bad the rains have been in the Mason area. The hunting was a bit slow this weekend so I left early and went down the road to Katemcy Rocks offroad. There was always mud at the beginning of an obstacle which made things interesting but our biggest yank strap and winch fest was on a 2wd road.

We were taking the quick route to the other side of the road when we sunk 4 vehicles in about 60 seconds. The lead vehicle made it without breaking through but the 2nd guy said he knew he was in trouble when he saw the ground ripple. Any attempt to drive around resulted in a stuck. We eventually had to get out and walk the area to find a safe way through. It was really weird, you'd be on solid ground, walk 10 feet, feel like you were walking on a water bed and then be back on solid ground in another 10 feet. Every vehicle was locked front and rear on at least 40" tires and most had a healthy dose of horsepower. As you can see, none of that mattered and the only progress made was straight down.

I stuck a Mule, a Tacoma, and a Silverado all in the same day trying to pull one out with the other. No winch, or anything else to try and pull em out with. Went to tractor supply and bought a high lift jack. Best $80 I’ve ever spent. Picked em up and put boards under.

Tried the 2x4 ratchet strap trick but they just made a bigger hole.

                      Good looking rigs y’all have.

A few years ago, out in north east tx...I experienced the same thing. The sandy loam was so saturated that it felt like a water bed. The sand was fluidy? Once a tire scratched the surface, you’d start to think. Had to drive over it quickly.

I had the Mason area saturated, pulverized granite do that to me many, many years ago. And, you're right, just a few feet away was OK.
