    For the computer geeks...errr...technicians

The USB ports quit working on my sons ASUS mother board. Get the constant chimes that it makes when you plug something into it. Mouse and keyboard no worky. Tried them on different PC and they are ok. Re-loaded updated drivers no help. Thoughts?

When you first turn on the PC are you able to press F2 on the keyboard and enter the BIOS?

If you are able to enter the BIOS it means the USB ports are working but somethings wrong with the way the hardware is being presented to or consumed by the OS.

If this is the case you can try resetting the BIOS to defaults and see if that helps.

If you are not able to enter the BIOS it's likely bad hardware.

Try blowing out all the ports and other openings with canned air. Sounds silly but it worked for me.

I thought the same thing. I'll try it. Thanks.

Resetting the BIOS to default worked. Your right, you really do fix stuff. I fix airplanes but not computer guts! Thanks friend!
