I grew up hunting without rifles in the Midwest in Indiana. A good slug gun can shoot up to 200 yards.

Verus buying an expensive barrel, I would recommend a full slug gun. One I really like is the bolt action Savage 212 slug gun. Built like a rifle with a much lighter trigger.

A rifled true slug gun is massively different than shooting a rifled choke or rifled slug. The true slug guns are a even more improved over just a rifled barrel on a standard shotgun a well.

I hadn’t seen these before. They look pretty nice and they’re cheap enough that I don’t feel bad picking up a set just to try. I think I’d put more faith in something like this than a cheap red dot.

In the meantime I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for a good deal on a used 212 or 220!

This is a public land draw and looking at pictures I’d be surprised if I can even find a place there (Copper Breaks SP) that I can shoot 100 yards. All I really need is something reliable to spot and stalk some hogs with.

Just remember to Locktight the threads. And the little bar that slides between barrle and rib, move it forward till it hits the rib piller. That will help keep it from shifting due to recoil.

I've got several slugguns. Been shooting them since late 1970s.

It’s good to hear some nice success stories as well.

I’ll dig up my slugs and get you the details, as well as the specs of my 3 shotguns that I used

Funny, as I was posting my dad called and asked if I needed slugs our firearms season begins one week from today.

                Shotgun

I have a Savage 220 and an Encore 20ga the buck I killed last year in Illinois was with the Savage at 120 yards. I have sighted in the Encore and will use it this year, but will have the savage with me just in case.

I have a 12-ga Mossberg pump w/rifled barrel and scope that a buddy gave me Don't think I've ever shot a slug thru it, although I did buy a smoothbore and used it dove hunting a time or two. Might have to get some slugs and see how it shoots. Lots of hogs for it to "eat"

You will be surprised how well rifled slugs shoot, even with a bead. I have a 870 and wouldn’t have a problem shooting 100 yards. Start at 50 yds then 75 and then 100. Good luck.

                      I have a 20gauge H&R ultra slug hunter. I can hold a 2 1/2 to 3 inch group at 100yrds.
