7 year old shooting a blackbuck?

My son just shot his first deer, a doe, a week before he turned 7. So now I have an opportunity for him to shoot a big blackbuck. I’m not sure if I should let him do it or make him wait. I kind of want him to work his way up to a trophy animal, don’t want to make him spoiled, if you know what I mean.

So, let him have a chance at shooting one or make him wait? Im just not sure if he knows how lucky he would be to do it.

If you know he won’t fully appreciate it, hold off. You’re about to teach him the true meaning of harvesting a trophy. Don’t ruin it by letting him do it before he understands the meaning behind it.

Immin the fence about that. I want my boys to enjoy everything they do. If they want to shoot whatever, I would let them probably. On the other hand, I’m like you and would want them to appreciate a true trophy and not expect it to be handed to them or see one every time they go out.

Tough decision in my book for sure

I was 10 before my dad would even let me shoot a whitetail doe

          Let him shoot it.

Edit: I couldn't legally drive before I shot my first 170 class whitetail. I also had a blast shooting 4 dove today.

You will probably get a bunch of grumpy old people telling you about how their dad didnt let them shoot a buck until they were 15, and that's how you should do it.

I say let the kid shoot it, and his love for hunting will only grow from there.

This, I’m having a hard time deciding. He enjoys the heck out of the outdoor experience, I’ve always been against seeing young kids shoot big bucks as their first, but then again, how often do you get the chance.

Yep, I agree, what the heck, we will try and make a go at it.

So, going live with it? Starting at 7:30 am?

Start a new thread for a live hunt?

If he doesn't shoot it who will? You, a another hunter, no one?

Hes 7. He wont even know the caliber of what he shot other than he shot a deer

He knows exactly the gun and caliber he’s shooting, even knows he’s using his dads first scope.

If you feel he is ready, let him shoot it. You never know what tomorrow will bring.
