I need to pick up about 8,000 lbs of fencing supplies on a 20’ tandem axle for bed. Can my Ecoboost handle that payload?

Ecoboost 3.5 towing capacity
Engine/power wise yes. Just make sure it is loaded evenly and give plenty of room for braking. I hauled that much several time when i had mine with no issues other than not being used to the lesser brakes since i had always been in 3/4 tons until that point

My truck stops pretty much just as well unloaded as it does loaded. Make sure the gain is set correctly on your trailer brakes and you are good to go.
Semantics, but 8,000# on trailer isn't 'payload' that is towing and relates to your towing capacity. Payload is the amount of weight you can put on the trucks suspension either through cargo or tongue weight. My ecoboost as equipped has 1800# of payload and 12,200 max tow.
That being said setup is paramount. The max tongue weight without weight distribution hitch is 500 pounds. The towing setup you are trying to pull should have 800-1000 pound tongue weight so you should be using a WD hitch that incorporates sway control in its design.
I have towed our John Deere with front end loader and brushhog easily. Tracks straight and the WD hitch transfers a lot of the tongue weight to the front axle enhancing stability. That setup weighs about what you are describing does. Gets poor MPG with that much weight but I am sure anything would.

.
A lot of folks will pick up a 2” hitch at Lowe’s or tractor supply and not notice that it’s only rated for 5k. Check your receiver’s rating too.

8000 lbs of cargo plus another 2000+ lbs of trailer is a heavy load for a half ton. I’d do it for short distances of 20-30 miles, but I wouldn’t even consider it for any long distances. Just takes it slow, load your trailer properly, and give yourself enough braking distance. Try and stick to slower less busy roads as well if possible.

We have a 3/4 ton GMC with the V8 and three half tons with the Ecoboost. My boys and I feel that the Ecoboosts will out pull the 3/4 ton. I have pulled my 5,000 pound trailer with 1,500 pounds on it all the way to the SHOT Show on two different occasions. If memory serves me correctly, I got about 12 mpg driving 70 mph.
Adios,

I will chime in again just because i have owned all three. I had F250 diesels from 2000-2016. Pulling loaded trailers almost daily. Now i have a company truck and dont have a need for the diesel in my personal and thought i would be ok with a half ton so after my dad had a few i bought an eco boost. Loved the truck and engine as it pulled great. I regulary had my 20’HD trailer with a tractor or my sxs and zero turn both on it. Only reason i got rid of it was that i do pull a good amount of weight when i do pull and sometimes the truck didnt handle it as well as i was used to. If i was only pulling like that an handful of times of times a year i would have kept it. I went back to a 250 but got the gasser because of going with a bed hay spear and comfort factor when pulling. Yes, i agree it doesnt feel as if it pulls as strong but the only reason is because of the lack of a turbo which is engaged by torque load of the exhaust when under load. Over all as a truck the 250 handles pulling better. I only drive it on the weekends and it has a load in it atleast once a week. Sure i miss the diesel but not all the bs that goes with the new ones and miss the turbo on the eco but not sure how reliable it would have been pushing it like i do all the time and i keep my trucks as long as possible. Hope this helps shed some light in the subject from real world experience and i wasnt just rambling on
