    Wireless Game Cams

I am looking into these wireless game cams since I cant always get out to the ranch to check pics on mine. My situation is I am 5hrs from the ranch to home, I work offshore for about 28 days at a time. I see they are set to run off a wireless network like Verizon, AT&T etc. If you have any other info related please add to these questions.

My questions are. First I have spotty service at best and no power for a cell booster unless I am running of my generator while out there. So guys/gals with experience or similar situations. Do these cameras work in those situations?

Question 2- Being I am offshore and these run on wireless network, can you have the pictures sent to an email address or do they only come via text? I cannot get regular text message while offshore. I can get imessage but I refuse to pay $55 for 1.5gb of wifi that might only last a couple days.

    Thanks for any info.

    Hello,

We run Coverts & have been pleased with their performance. Like you, my service is maybe a single bar at the ranch, but with the booster antenna that plugs directly into your camera, we've had no issues receiving photos. I'd suggest also getting rechargeable batteries & running a solar panel.

Covert has a smartphone app that it will send all the photos to. You will also have a login to their website where all of the photos will be uploaded. You can choose to have them texted to you, but I'd prefer to just get a notification from the app on my smart phone.

They have a variety of plans you can choose from, we selected the $15.00 a month for 10,000 photos & haven't been close to going over.

    Hope this helps!

I’ve been using cellular game cams for about 10 years, because my situation is similar to yours. I live almost 9 hours from my place, and these cameras have been about priceless for me.
I’m currently running Spartans with ATT service, and my cell service isn’t great but enough to send pictures. I buy service from ATT “buy a session” for 4 gigs of data per year for $75, and I don’t believe it’s possible to use all the data on the plan. I get over 25k pictures per camera per year and only use a small percentage of the data. I have an email set up just for game cam pictures to be sent.
My current cameras are 3g, but you would want to buy 4g since the 3g cameras will be phased out pretty soon.

I am currently running a spypoint and a stealth a gxw. Stealth is a little clearer pic, but one thing I have come to expect is, you probably are not going to get every pic sent to your phone. My WG camera will have about 2K pics a week but my cell camera will only send a fraction of those. Could be camera setting issue, but I think it's more a data issue. Word of caution: Spypoint's customer service is terrible. Unless you speak french it's hard to get someone on the phone. Stealth's customer service keeps banker's hours. So you will need to take your camera to work with you and call during the day. The spypoint was way easier to set up to the app. Stealth I had to fight with a bit and it took several times a couple of ATT phone calls to connect to a network. Spypoint, all i did was turn it on.

        For what it's worth.

My buddy in Oklahoma switched to Spartans and he loves them. He sent me some pics that the cameras were sending him and they were amazingly clear. Their app is nice too, he can see what is going on at any of his cameras at any time.
I’m considering buying a few myself now.

I have a busnnell and it works flawlessly, it has 1-2 bars of service and I always get pics. You can have them emailed of texted to you, I pay $9.99 for 1500 pics per month and goes up from there. Advice, only use lithium batteries and buy a solar panel charger on any of these cameras.

Op I'm not trying take over your thread but I have kind of the same issue. The question I have is I use T-Mobil and don't want to change plans for my cell service, can I get the 4 gig plan for 75 a year for just a camera or does it require a cell service plan also?

Are you using ATT service for your Spypoint?

With the coverts, you can also log into your account on their website and all the pics are there, same as in your app if that is what you are asking

I’ve been running Coverts every since they started. Had some ups and downs. But all in all they are pretty nice. Have great customer service too. Some places I hunt I am 10 minutes from but I still run them there. Keeps me out of the woods. My Coverts have cost many pigs their life as well. And that’s a plus to me....cause I can’t stand them!!

So what ever cam you buy ( i use spartan ) you need service in that area . Where I hunt ATT is the only thing that works I had sprint and no service there at all Verizion same thing ( GF had that ) Not sure how you would go about figuring out what company has the best service in that area .

Taller booster will gain you bars. Now 1 bar may or may not send steady pics some times it would and others it would not

External battery is a huge bonus not just for the cam but signal is dependent on it . I can see a extra bar with 100% battery charge vs when it starts to get low the signal also is effected .. I run herd 360s on my 2 cams

Ok, so are you paying for one of the plans through Spypoint or your cell bill?
