Long story short, I bought a Remington 770 off a guy that works for me. He needed the cash and I've been trying to find a rifle for my son. problem is, the length of pull is way to long. my son is 7 and not very big. I've looked and I cant find a youth stock for less than what I paid for the gun. Can I cut down the stock myself? my concern is that with it being composite, it may be hollow and there wont be anything to mount the but pad to.

If it "feels" hollow, it likely is. If it is, you can still cut it and fill it with plaster (like fiberglass or bondo) and mount the butt plate to it that way,... The other thing you can do is cut it and put one of the slip-on buttpads... I built a youth stock for my wife and later my son to hunt with. I could not shoot the sucker because it had such a short pull... I put one of those slip on's on it so I could at least get it zeroed in close... They work pretty good, but haven't seen one in years, but I bet they are still available...
