    cold/limber tail?

Have you guys ever heard of this syndrome. I think my lab has it. It looks to be broken but he shows no sign of pain and can wag it. I took him to the vet and the tech said she didn't think it was broken. We didn't X-ray it because she said there was nothing they could do for it if it was. I mentioned limber tail and she said she had never heard of it.

Go to the gun dog forum on refugeforums.com and do a search on cold tail. Pretty common and not anything to worry much about. My lab had it a few years ago. Yours will be fine in a few days. Seems to be caused by extended time in cold water, but not necessarily the only cause.

    He'll be fine.

I had pretty much the same experience last year - vet unfamiliar with it and everything. Anyhow, my lab was back to wagging normally in a week or two. We got her some anti-inflammatory meds but I'm not sure if those helped any.

Thanks guys, he always takes off after we let him out of his pen and is usually gone about 30 min. and then hangs around the house. Yesterday he was gone over 5 hours. He came back with his tail goofed up.

Don't know about Labs, but it occurs a lot in pointers. Always lasts a few days and then they are o.k.

a few years back our duck boat sank on lake cooper. we were in the water for about 35 minutes holding on a plastic gas tank and my dog was swiming the whole time. when we fianlly got home my dog's tail was not moving and he did not want me to touch it. Took him to the vet and explained what happened. He said my dog had a tired tail (no joke), took e-rays and poped an inflamed **** gland. he was better in a few days.
