Wait! He's from Oklahoma, how can that be?

The year before he died he came out to the L Bar Ranch in NM and spent a week in elk camp just visiting and hanging out. He was a good friend of Phil Lyne who is one of my best friends and partner when we were booking lots of hunts across the Southwest. He was a great guy and just one of the boys around camp.

Hell, he can't help where he was born. I won't hold that against him. He got out of there as quick as he could

Way cool. Would loved to have heard any stories that he shared. Bet he had some good ones.

Absolutely. Shoot, I doubt many of those Hollywood types could handle much of him. Nor he them, for the simple fact he knew what it really meant to work hard and do it all outdoors with nobody on payroll to wipe his behind or nose.

He came from simple beginnings and wasn’t the kind to waste things. He even said that he got into trouble numerous times for not holding back on his heartfelt beliefs when speaking his mind amongst others while on the sets.

He was outspoken against recreational drug use and laziness.

Pretty cool that he helped others while he was on the way up and also after he achieved success.

That was a number of years ago but I remember that he talked more about rodeos and cowboying than Hollywood or acting. Like I said, he was just one of the boys and wanted to be treated that way.

One of my all time favorites as well. I was fortunate enough to meet him years ago at Dozier's BBQ in Fulsher. Word had gotten around that he was there and it was filling up fast. Old Mr. Dozier ran off all the non-eaters and while I was standing there looking for a place to sit down he said "Hey big fella we have room over here if you don't mind listening to a bunch of tall tales."

It was 1976 I think and someone had stolen a belt buckle out of his car in Houston and he wasn't very happy about it.

He was in many great scenes, but this one is epic!

It's classic Ben Johnson, and I always go back in time whenever I view it.

That is a very informative video. He was a stand up man. Around the 20 min mark it references his belt buckle being stolen in Houston in 1976. That was referenced by TX Wader a couple posts up.
