Matagorda Island used to be owned by the Winn Family from Dallas. They leased the East end of the Island to the Air Force and used the rest for there cattle operation (Starr Ranch). and as an Island retreat for family and friends. There was a main house, foreman house, bunkhouse, Pvt. runway. and a hanger for there airplane and other toy's.
I was lucky to be a quest on the Island for 5 days back in the 70's. I think the State took over the Island some time in the 80's after a long battle. Now if you have a boat you can go camping and fishing there when ever you like.
