Need help locating a Kansas lease

    Hey guys,

I am looking for any leads on a Kansas lease/land to hunt this coming season. I would love something in South Eastern or South Central Kansas. If anyone knows anybody or has any leads, i would sure appreciate it. I would prefer not to go through a lease finder service as sometimes the prices are a little inflated. I have heard through some sources that you can find land in Kansas for $2-3 an acre. . .dont know if that is accurate, but would love it if it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks,

Good luck on that. Locals are finding it harder to find a place to hunt. The outfitter I hunt with has about 30,000 acres leased up and there's a bunch of outfitters up there. I did find out that the 320 acres I hunt on up there, the outfitter is paying $3 an acre for that property.

I think it is going to get harder up there. I have a pretty good connection to bow hunt up there but I am not the only one who is hunting it. A father and son hunt it during the rifle season. Not to bad though. Between our groups we haven't killed a trophy in 3 yrs. The last buck killed was 175" 2 yrs ago. They enjoy hot totties and warm campfire more than anything. They won't shoot anything under 170" and aplogized for the buck they did kill saying they thought it was bigger.lol I have thought about leasing it out right but I don't want to put my friends in an ackward positon. I have mentioned that if it came to I would like first bid.

We went up there and hit the cafe in all the towns and found a place. We give 5 an acre but I would have paid more for that place.

The ranch (SE/SC Kansas) that we hunt on has a few openings. It is not neccesarily a lease per say, but we pay to hunt for a week, with lodging. We get the opportunity to go scout and set stands prior to season and then schedule our hunts accordingly. The hunters who have been in the past always have first choice of dates. It has some big deer as shown by sightings and cameras, but we have not knocked down a monster yet. There was a 180+ taken about 5 years ago. They only had one rifle hunter this year, and I would like to have enough hunters go, that the rancher would stop rifle hunting it. It is however his deal and money talks. PM me for info.

would it be worth it for me to just drive up there and spend a weekend going to diners and feed stores asking people if they know anybody? That used to work in Texas in the old days, but now it is useless because everyone has somebody hunting their land.

Is there any particular area that i should concentrate on? I wouldnt mind paying $5 an acre for the right place, but from what i am told, it is more advantageous to pay less and get more land as the deer densities are lower up there.....

Anybody had success walking up to a farm house and asking them to hunt? I dont want to get shot or anything. . .anybody had success with that? Are they going to think i am just a crazy Texan or what?

They have figured out the deer equals money thing by now. I think the days of "knocking on doors" and getting permission are gone. Not to bust your bubble...guess it could still happen. There is some great, hard working, down to earth people up there! Without using an outfitter....It takes inside connections to land a place anymore. I'm just fortunate to have some. Good luck in your search!

Start calling county extensions agents- they know everyone. I know several guys that have found places this way. Just offer a trespass fee with a kill fee if you kill.

Not to high jack your thread, but I am wanting to hunt Kansas next year also, i was thinking of putting in for the draw in a couple of prime units and if I get drawn, go up and search in my unit . My thinking is why lease without knowing if I can get drawn for a unit I want to hunt.

Put in for unit 7 & 8. Lots of public ground up there and good lookin country with big deer. Last time I was up that way, third week in Nov, huntin pheasants, we never ran into ANY deer hunters.

We went to S.E. kansas, lots of public land just more work hanging stands or getting deer out since you have to walk.
